SANDHILL CRANES

I had never heard of Sandhill Cranes until I moved to Florida.  I now love these birds. They are almost always seen in pairs and they have a distinct calling to them.  You can hear them fly in from a distance.  We "followed" the family of Sandhill's for almost a year.  There were 4 of them and we loved watching them grow up, then one day there was just one baby.  They would show up like clockwork morning and night for feeding.  Below are a couple of my favorite photos, some taken almost 10 years ago.

This is my favorite.  He let me get really close to him.

2 that would visit us regularly in the afternoon.

The family of 4 walking up from the pond after getting a little drink.

The family (now just 3) getting some snacks.  I love my cat peaking out at them from the lanai.

Hunter

Hunter was trying to relax.  It was windy out and the cushion fell on top of him.  He didn't care.  When I took the picture I did not realize the Sandhill Cranes were in the backyard.  They come everyday like clockwork for bread.
